May 24, 2004

ANAHUAC, Texas (AP) _ A casino bus slammed into a stopped tractor-trailer rig on Interstate 10 early Monday, killing one person.

The accident near Anahuac in southeast Texas involved a westbound Coach USA bus.

Coach USA spokeswoman Liz Greene in Dallas would not say where the bus was coming from, but KTRH radio in Houston said it was headed to Houston from Harrah’s casino at Lake Charles, La.

``Everyone is on the scene now,″ Greene said. ``The focus is on getting passengers treated and working with the police and DPS on the investigation and other matters.″

An elderly woman was killed, the Texas Department of Public Safety said. An agency dispatcher in Beaumont had no details on injuries.

KTRH reported that four people were flown to Memorial Hermann Medical Center in Houston and that Winnie Community Hospital was told to expect 18 to 25 patients.
