Pacts Approved for UNLV Coaches

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) _ Contracts for UNLV football coach John Robinson and new basketball coach Charlie Spoonhour were approved Monday by the Board of Regents.

The board unanimously approved a five-year, $2.5 million contract extension for Robinson. Spoonhour got a three-year, $1.275 million contract.

Robinson inherited an 0-11 team, and in his second season led the Rebels to a Las Vegas Bowl victory over Arkansas. The Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year is 11-13 in his two seasons at UNLV and 115-48-4 during a career in which his teams have gone 8-1 in bowl games.

Spoonhour is returning to coaching after being retired for two years. During his 16-year career at Southwest Missouri State and Saint Louis, Spoonhour’s teams won 61 percent of their games.
