2 men identified in separate fatal car crashes
The man found inside a car submerged in the St. Marys River has been identified as a 36-year-old from South Whitley, the Allen County coroner’s office said Monday.
Brian W. Coburn died from drowning, the coroner ruled, noting the manner of death was an accident.
Fort Wayne police responded to the area near Rudisill Boulevard and Broadway about 3:30 a.m. Sunday after the car’s OnStar system notified emergency officials the vehicle was either in or alongside the river and was moving toward the Bluffton Road bridge, police have said.
Crews pulled the car from the water just south of the bridge.
The crash remains under investigation.
The coroner identified another crash victim Monday, Doyle S. Stallings.
Stallings, 54, of Fort Wayne was the driver in a single-vehicle crash Feb. 12 on Leesburg Road near O’Day Road. He was taken from the scene to a hospital, where he remained until his death, the coroner said.
He died from blunt force injuries due to the crash, the coroner said.
His manner of death also was ruled an accident.
There have been nine fatalities from traffic crashes in Allen County this year.
