Schaumburg Boomers Stadium to get $10.5M upgrade

December 24, 2017

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (AP) — A suburban Chicago baseball stadium is getting a $10.5 million makeover.

The Daily Herald reports the village of Schaumburg and the local park district have approved a four-year plan to upgrade Schaumburg Boomers Stadium.

The two governments co-own the nearly 19-year-old stadium where the baseball team plays.

Among the improvements being considered is replacing the stadium’s natural grass with artificial turf so more events may be held there. Work isn’t expected to begin until next off-season.

The Boomers won the 2017 Frontier League championship and the team claims the league’s largest average attendance. The Boomers pay annual rent of about $100,000.
