MU releases 2018-19 C-USA basketball slate
HUNTINGTON — Marshall University revealed the first 14 games of its 2018-19 season Conference USA men’s basketball regular season schedule Tuesday.
Marshall’s remaining four games will be determined by how the Thundering Herd fares in the first seven weeks of the conference season.
C-USA adopted a new scheduling model that will match the top teams against each other at the end of the season to protect the Ratings Percentage Index of its best clubs and improve the league’s chances of getting multiple NCAA Tournament teams and higher seedings for those teams.
Marshall will host conference foes Florida Atlantic, FIU, UTEP, UTSA, UAB and Middle Tennessee while traveling to play Old Dominion, Charlotte, Louisiana Tech, Southern Miss, North Texas and Rice. Marshall and its travel partner, Western Kentucky, play a home-and-home.
“We are looking forward to the new format,” Marshall head coach Dan D’Antoni said. “As a whole, it should make the conference look stronger. I’m looking forward to the competition and ready for the season to start.”
Marshall is building on a 25-11 season, its first C-USA men’s basketball championship and the program’s first NCAA Tournament victory. Returning players include all-conference guards Jon Elmore and C.J. Burks.
Opponents, dates and locations of the Herd’s final four games of the regular season are yet to be determined.
