Spelling’s ‘Melrose Place’ Canceled

March 2, 1999

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Goodbye was too hard to say for Aaron Spelling.

After his steamy Fox TV drama ``Melrose Place″ was canceled, the producer couldn’t tell the actors and crew in person.

``I couldn’t go on the set this time. It’s the first time I haven’t gone on the set. I wrote everyone a little note,″ Spelling told the syndicated TV show ``Hard Copy″ in an interview for broadcast today.

Spelling has visited the set to tell stars of the such shows as ``Charlie’s Angels″ and ``Dynasty″ that the series was over.

``If I ever get used to it, if it’s not emotional, I’ll quit the business because that means you don’t care,″ Spelling said.

Once the talk of television with its attractive cast and steamy plot twists, ``Melrose Place″ fell on hard times in the ratings. Its stars include Heather Locklear, Jamie Luner, Thomas Calabro and husband-and-wife actors Josie Bissett and Rob Estes.
