Pirates minor league report: Aug. 2, 2018
INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 60-50) lost 9-1 to Toledo (Tigers). The Indians struggled in a couple of innings, giving up four in the second and five in the seventh, and were unable to recover. CF Jason Martin (.274) and 3B Pablo Reyes (.295) each went 1 for 3 with a double, Martin with an RBI and Reyes scored the only run. 1B Wyatt Mathisen (.250) also added a double, going 1 for 4. Starting RHP Mitch Keller (0-2, 7.99 ERA) took the loss, pitching six innings, giving up four earned runs and struck out six.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 57-49) lost 4-3 to Harrisburg (Nationals). The Curve took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth before loading the bases with no outs, giving up the tying run on a fielder’s choice, followed by a walk-off base hit. CF Bryan Reynolds (.284) had a great day at the plate, falling a triple shy of the cycle, going 3 for 3 with a single, double and two-run homer, with two RBIs and two runs scored. And 3B Ke’Bryan Hayes (.285) went 1 for 4 with a double and scored the other run. RHP Tate Scioneaux (2-2, 5.67 ERA) took the loss in relief, going just one-third of an inning, giving up two earned runs on two hits and three walks.

BRADENTON (High-A, 49-53) lost 10-3 to St. Lucie (Mets). The Marauders did not record a hit until there was one out in the eighth inning, getting outhit in the game 13-3. RF Casey Hughston (.190) broke up the no-hitter with a base hit but also scored in the third inning after being walked, finishing 1 for 2. 3B Hunter Owen (.252) hit a two-run homer in the ninth with the game already out of hand, going 1 for 4 with two RBIs. Starting RHP Mike Wallace (4-8, 5.14 ERA) struggled on the mound, pitching just four innings, giving up nine runs, eight earned, and struck out five in the loss.

WEST VIRGINIA (Low-A, 54-51) lost 2-1 to Augusta (Giants). The bottom of the order struggled for the Power going a combined 1 for 20 while the 1-2-3 batters went 6 for 12. SS Oneil Cruz (.293) and RF Calvin Mitchell (.286) each doubled, Cruz going 2 for 4 in the leadoff spot and Mitchell 1 for 4 in the three-spot. CF Lolo Sanchez (.230) went 3 for 4 in the two-spot, with three singles, scored the lone run and had two stolen bases. Despite a solid start, RHP Travis McGregor (1-4, 3.43 ERA) took the loss, pitching six innings, giving up just two earned runs and struck out three.

WEST VIRGINIA (Short Season-A, 17-29) lost 2-1 to Williamsport (Phillies). The Black bears were unable to string together multiple hits and were limited to just one extra-base hit. LF Daniel Amaral (.230) went 2 for 4 in the leadoff spot with a single and a solo home run. CF Travis Swaggerty (.282) followed with three singles, going 3 for 4. Starting RHP Nicholas Economos (2-2, 3.34 ERA) pitched five innings, gave up two earned runs and struck out five in the loss.

WASHINGTON (Frontier League, 38-31) lost 8-1 to Normal. The Wild Things struggled both offensively and defensively, recording just four hits, no extra base, and committed three errors, all in the first inning, giving up six runs. CF James Harris (.320) went 2 for 4 with a couple of singles, stole a base and scored the only run on a sacrifice fly. Starting RHP Trevor Bradley (4-3, 3.74 ERA) took the loss, getting just one out in the first inning, giving up six runs, just two earned.
