HALSEY — Whew!

Hadley Brooksby hit the back end of a two-shot foul with 2.3 seconds left in the second overtime, giving the second-ranked Oakland girls basketball team a thrilling 40-39 win over No. 4 Central Linn on Saturday night in a Central Valley Conference girls basketball game.

Brooksby, a senior guard, finished with 25 points, including three in the second extra session. Grace Witten had six of her eight points in the overtime periods, and grabbed nine rebounds for the Oakers (12-1, 2-0 CVC).

Cassidy Jones had seven points before fouling out. Grace Witten and Gabby Parnell played the entire 40 minutes.

Colleen McLaughlin and Sarah Conner each scored 13 points for the Cobras (10-1, 1-1), who lost their first game of the season.

Brooksby and Jones each picked up three fouls in the first quarter, and Oakland failed to score in the second period and trailed 13-10 at the break.

“Oh, man,” a relieved Oakland coach Don Witten said. “You had two of the top defensive teams (in 2A). I was expecting a game in the 30s and it didn’t disappoint. It was a gritty win, maybe not pretty to watch.”

The Oakers will host Oakridge on Tuesday in a conference game.
