2 men sentenced in Colombia for kidnapping Italian
BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) — The Attorney General’s Office in Colombia says two men have been sentenced to 28 years imprisonment after admitting to kidnapping an Italian man a year ago.
The whereabouts of Piero Gianni Macioci remain unknown.
A judge issued the sentence in the provincial capital of Villavicencio, southeast of Bogota, after Victor Manuel Carvajal Castro and Alduar Castro Garzon confessed to the kidnapping.
A statement from the Attorney General’s Office says Macioci was traveling from Villavicencio to a nearby farm on July 18, 2012, when several armed suspects took him away in a truck.
It says that the victim’s wife later received calls demanding about $518,000 for his return. The amount was later dropped to $103,000.
Macioci’s family demanded, but never received, proof he was still alive.
