Man ends up stabbing self during attempted robbery

AKRON, Ohio — A man with a knife attempted to rob a pizza delivery driver but instead ended up stabbing himself, police say.

The driver for Marco’s Pizza on Manchester Road tells police he was trying to deliver a pizza to the 800 block of Florida Avenue in the Kenmore neighborhood at about 11:30 p.m. Friday when a man approached him.

The suspect demanded money from the driver then pulled a knife and put it to the driver’s throat.

The driver tried to grab the knife from the suspect, who tried to pull the knife back and ended up stabbing himself in the shoulder, police say.

The suspect then ran away without getting any money.

Police say the male suspect is 18 to 30 years old, 5-foot-10 to 6-foot-1, 180 to 200 pounds. He had blue eyes and covered his face with a black and white scarf with a skull on it. He also was wearing a black hooded sweat shirt and black jeans.
