BOSTON (AP) _ Manny Ramirez of the Boston Red Sox flied out in his third at-bat Saturday against Anaheim, ending his streak of reaching base at 14 plate appearances.
Ted Williams set the major league record of reaching base safely in 16 straight at-bats in Sept. 1957.
Ramirez reached on an infield hit and doubled down the third-base line his first two at-bats before hitting a fly to center against Kevin Appier in the sixth inning.
Ramirez had reached with six singles, a double, two homers and five walks during his streak.
Bernie Williams of the New York Yankees had reached base in 13 straight plate appearances before his streak ended against Seattle last Saturday.
