Carter Relative Scalps Tickets
AMERICUS, Ga. (AP) _ Jimmy Carter’s 75th birthday gala is such a popular event that one of his relatives is accused of trying to scalp a ticket.
Lewis Patrick Harrison Jr. was arrested Saturday on charges he sold a ticket to the sold-out event for $500 to an undercover agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Sheriff Randy Howard said.
Harrison, who paid $50 for the ticket to the Oct. 1 event, placed an ad in a local shopper offering tickets to the gala.
Harrison is Sybil Carter’s nephew. Mrs. Carter is the widow of the former president’s younger brother, Billy.
Harrison, who was charged with misdemeanor ticket scalping, was released on $1,000 bond Monday, a sheriff’s department spokeswoman said Wednesday.
