Ricketts appoints new state fire marshal
A former nuclear inspector was named Wednesday as Nebraska’s next state fire marshal.
Christopher Cantrell will replace Jim Heine, who is retiring Saturday after 29 years of working for the state. Doug Hohbein will serve as interim fire marshal until Cantrell takes over Oct. 15.
“From regulating power plants to boiler inspections, Chris brings two decades of experience in applying safety codes” as Nebraska’s next state fire marshal, Gov. Pete Ricketts said in a press release.
Cantrell, 47, has served as director of safety for the Nebraska Department of Labor since 2014 and program manager for the boiler inspection program since 2007. Prior to working for the Labor Department, Cantrell was a nuclear inspector at the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Co.
His salary will be $105,000.
