Swimmers win host invite
Watertown’s boys swim team won three events to highlight a first place finish at its host invitational on Saturday.
Senior Brendan Williams won the 50 freestyle in 23.66 seconds and swam on a pair of first place relays for the Goslings, who easily outdistanced Pulaski, 536.5 points to 389, for the team title.
The 200 medley relay team of senior Nathan Lampe, sophomore Nathan Williams, junior Shaun McCloskey and Brendan Williams won in 1:52. The 400 freestyle relay team of Shaun McCloskey, sophomore Zach Jaworski, Lampe and Brendan Williams won in 3:41.73.
Brendan Williams added a second place finish in the 100 freestyle in 53.34. The 200 freestyle relay team of freshman Liam McCloskey, Jaworski, senior Joshua Vana and Nathan Williams also took second in 1:40.89.
Third place finishers included Nathan Williams in the 200 freestyle relay (2:06.23) and 100 breaststroke (1:09.20), junior Thomas van Zanten in the 500 freestyle (6:13.41), junior Austin Fuchs in the 100 backstroke (1:09.46), and the 200 medley relay team of Fuchs, senior Seth Weidmeyer, junior Anthony Smith and van Zanten in 2:09.11.
“It was a fantastic day of swimming for the athletes,” Watertown boys swim coach Samantha Calliari said. “In addition to winning the meet overall, there were 50 personal records set!”
Watertown travels to Monona Grove for a Badger South dual meet on Tuesday.
