No. 17 Xavier, Ohio 95, Kansas St. 54

CINCINNATI (AP) _ Darnell Williams and Torraye Braggs provided the muscle inside, and an unrelenting press rattled Kansas State as No. 17 Xavier of Ohio stayed unbeaten streak with a 95-54 rout Sunday.

The win gave Xavier 9-0 record for the first time in school history. The Musketeers started 8-0 in 1992-93.

Williams had 21 points and six rebounds and Braggs 16 points and 16 rebounds for Xavier. Lenny Brown scored 16 points and T.J. Johnson 15.

Xavier never trailed, sprinting to a 6-0 lead with Brown and Williams scoring baskets off steals before Mark Young’s 3-pointer opened Kansas State’s scoring.

The Musketeers’ press and dominance on the backboards helped build their lead to 35-15 on James Posey’s dunk with 4:05 left in the first half. Kansas State came back with a 7-0 run, but Xavier led 37-24 at halftime.

Young’s 14 points in the first half kept Kansas State in the game, and he finished with 22.

Braggs had 10 rebounds as Xavier outrebounded Kansas State 28-17 in the first half.

Gary Lumpkin scored the first five points of the second half for Xavier before Young answered with a 3-pointer.

Williams’ 3-pointer with 8:21 left made it 76-46, and Lenny Brown’s 3-pointer with 4:25 remaining put Xavier ahead 83-50. In the next minute, Posey and Williams added three more baskets, two of them off steals, to extend the margin to 89-50.

Terrance Payne gave Xavier its biggest lead, 95-52, on a short jumper with 1:02 remaining.
