Former Sterling man dies in car crash

December 30, 2018

PLEASANT VALLEY, Iowa – A former Sterling man and Prophetstown High School graduate who died in a car crash is being remembered as a man with a “pure heart of gold and one of the best people on Earth.”

Mark A. McClintock, 50, of Pleasant Valley, died at Trinity Medical Center North in Bettendorf, Iowa, on Thursday after a single-vehicle crash in Bettendorf.

The 2013 Land Rover he was driving left the road at 2:41 a.m. Thursday and struck a utility pole near the intersection of 30th and State streets in Bettendorf. Police are trying to determine whether a medical condition might have contributed to the crash.

McClintock was a 1987 graduate of Prophetstown High School and owned and operated Boozie’s Bar and Grill in Davenport, Iowa, for 11 years.

The bar reopened the day after the accident because, according to a post on its Facebook page, “that’s what Mark would want.”

Among his survivors are his mother, Shirley Williams of Lyndon; his father, Larry McClintock of Rock Falls; his sister, Monica McKown of Rock Falls; and a brother, Miles McClintock of Clinton, Iowa.
