Sri Lanka beats Ireland in ODI
DUBLIN (AP) — Sri Lanka swept to victory against Ireland on Tuesday, winning by 79 runs in the first of two one-day internationals between the teams.
The tourists overcame an early wobble when opener Kusal Perera went for a duck, reaching 219-8 before bowling out Ireland for 140.
Sri Lanka sealed victory with 10 overs of the Irish innings to spare as Ajantha Mendis and Surantha Lakmal took three-wicket hauls.
The second ODI is to be played in Dublin on Thursday before Sri Lanka heads to England for a Twenty20 match, five ODIs and a two-test series.
Sri Lanka 219-8 (Nuwan Kulasekara 42, Dinesh Chandimal 39; Tim Murtagh 2-21) def. Ireland 140 (William Porterfield 37, Niall O’Brian 33; Ajantha Mendis 3-27).
