BRISBANE, Australia (AP) _ Australian left-hander Greg Chalmers won his first Australasian PGA Tour event Sunday, closing with a 4-under-par 68 for a one-stroke victory in the Australian Tournament Players Championship.
Chalmers, 24, who earned $96,630, played the final nine holes in 5-under 31, including an eagle on No. 11 and a birdie on No. 17 after his ball bounced favorably off a television tower. He had a 12-under 276 total.
``It’s fantastic. A mixture of relief and excitement,″ Chalmers said. ``The eagle got things rolling for me, I just tried to focus on the present and hoped a few things went my way, which they did.″
Australia’s Peter Lonard finished second, also closing with a 68 on the Royal Queensland course. Greg Norman, playing his first tournament on his former home course since winning the 1983 Queensland Open, shot a 75 to finish 11 strokes back at 1-under 287.
