Nebraska golf, tennis coaches are fired after tough seasons
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska men’s golf coach Bill Spangler and men’s tennis coach Kerry McDermott won’t return after their contracts expire this summer.
Athletic director Bill Moos made the announcement Wednesday.
Spangler has been the men’s coach for 17 years after working nine years as an assistant on the women’s team. The Cornhuskers have not won a team title in a tournament since 2012. They went 1-2-1 in the Big Ten Match Play Championship in February and finished 11th out of 14 teams in the Big Ten Tournament last month.
McDermott just finished his 37th season as Nebraska’s head coach. The Huskers were 11-15 overall and 1-11 in the Big Ten.
