Holiday Film Series opens this Wednesday

The Daily Journal Holiday Film Series kicks off 7 p.m. Wednesday with the showing of “Jurassic Park” at Classic Cinemas Paramount Theatre in downtown Kankakee.

Released June 11, 1993, the science-fiction adventure film, directed by Steven Spielberg, follows a preview tour of a theme park that suffers a major power breakdown, causing cloned dinosaurs to terrorize the park.

The film stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, as Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler and Ian Malcolm, respectively. “Jurassic Park” is based on the 1990 novel of the same name by Michael Crichton.

“Jurassic Park” grossed over $914 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film of 1993 and of all time, until the 1997 release of “Titanic.”

The film won all three Academy Awards that it was nominated for,at the 66th Academy Awards — best sound editing, best sound mixing and best visual effects.

There have been four “Jurassic Park” sequels, and another one is slated for 2021.

Passes for the movie can be picked up at at the downtown Kankakee office. There is a limit of four free passes per subscribing household.
