Lloyd Guenther, 98, Menomonie

Lloyd Alfred Guenther went home to be with Jesus on Jan. 15, 2019. Lloyd was 26 days shy of his 99th birthday.

Lloyd was born Feb. 10, 1920, to Alfred P. Guenther and Esther M. (Wittlinger) in New London. Lloyd fought in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corp, serving in both North Africa and Italy.

After the service, Lloyd apprenticed as a tool and die maker with Dorst Metalcraft/Peerless Luggage Equipment Company, and completed his career at Mayville Metal Products after 32 years, finishing as their quality control engineer.

Lloyd married Genevieve Dorst on Oct. 20, 1946. They had three girls and a boy: Judy, Leslie, Kristine and James. Lloyd and Genn were married for 68 years.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve in 2014; his parents, Alfred and Esther; his sister and brother; and one infant son.

His is survived by his four children, Judy (Bock) Jung (John) of Beaver Dam/Sun City West, Arizona, Leslie Nickley (Lloyd “Nick”) of Grafton, Kristine Sterbenz (James) of Lawrence, Kansas, and James (Christa) Guenther of Elk Mound. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

At this time the family is planning a graveside service in June.

The family thanks Mayo Home Hospice for their tremendous compassion and care, and also the Neighbors of Dunn County Nursing Home for the compassionate care during his final days.
