Coco Bongo Cocina & Bar brings Mexican and Tex-Mex fusion
There’s a new take on Mexican and Tex-Mex favorites at the new Coco Bongo Cocina & Bar in Stone Oak. The restaurant opened six weeks ago in the former home of Drew’s American Grill.
Familiar orders like enchiladas, fajitas and tacos are on the menu, but with a twist provided by executive chef Chef David Yokuty. He’s a veteran of San Antonio-area restaurants (Valeria Farm to Table Restaurant, Boardwalk Bistro, Tribeca 212), and said he infuses a touch of French, Mediterranean and Asian cuisine into his dishes. His kitchen is equipped with a wood-burning rotisserie oven where Yokuty roasts whole goats and pigs.
Coco Bongo is located in a sprawling 10,000-square-foot space that can seat up to 300 inside and on an attached patio. The venue regularly hosts live music, including mariachi performers every Friday and Saturday. The restaurant is currently serving a limited dinner menu. Yokuty said Coco Bongo will roll out its full menu, lunch and brunch service sometime this week.
