MANHATTAN, Kan. _ Aaron Swartzendruber scored 14 points and led four Wildcats in double figures as Kansas State beat Missouri-Kansas City 73-53 in the season opener for both teams.

Anthony Love hit a 3-pointer with 11:32 in the first half to tie the game at 14-14, but that was the Kangaroo's last basket for more than 4 minutes as Kansas State built a 7-point lead.

The Wildcats scored eight points in the final two minutes of the first half as Shawn Rhodes and Pero Vasiljevic both made 3-pointers to build a 36-24 lead.

Kansas State went scoreless for 6 minutes early in the second half, allowing the Kangaroos to come within five points at 40-35. But the Wildcats came back with a 20-10 run, led by 6 points from Rhodes to take a 60-45 lead with 4:31 remaining.

Rhodes scored 13 points, while Ayome May and Gerald Eaker each had 12. Eaker also had 12 rebounds and Rhodes added 10.

Lonnie Alexander led Missouri-Kansas City with 13 points, and Vinson Smith had 10. Tony Berg added 10 rebounds.
