Car crash with injuries closes part of Bettis Academy Road

Bettis Academy Road was fully shut down Tuesday morning following an accident with confirmed injuries and entrapment.

Both lanes of traffic – near Ballard Drive and Fields Cemetery Road and north of I-20 – were closed and remained closed as of 9:50 a.m. Drivers were forced to turn around and find another route.

An Aiken County Sheriff’s Office deputy on scene said the accident involved at least two cars and injured those involved. The deputy did not know the extent of those injuries.

The deputy said no one died in the crash.

The S.C. Highway Patrol’s realtime traffic website currently lists injuries as well as entrapment. The accident is being handled by Highway Patrol.

The call for the accident came across the scanner around 8:46 a.m. The call described the crash as “head on” and involving multiple vehicles.
