BEIJING (AP) _ A Chinese dentist is trying to raise awareness about dental hygiene by word of mouths _ a tower of human teeth 8 feet 4 inches tall.

Yu Qian fashioned his dental edifice from 28,000 human teeth, the official Xinhua News Agency reported today.

Yu Qian, 52, a dentist for 32 years from Qingnan county in Heilongjiang province, northeast China, comes from a family of dentists and has treated more than 100,000 patients.

With his six students, Yu collected the 28,000 diseased teeth, representing five different types of dental disease, from patients' mouths.

He started building the tower in 1993 using various unspecified adhesive materials.
