Turnstone set to host goalball, judo qualifier
Turnstone and the United States Association of Blind Athletes will host the 2019 International Blind Sports Federation Goalball and Judo International Qualifier from June 28 to July 10 in Fort Wayne.
This event is one of the final opportunities for athletes to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics in goalball and blind judo. Volunteer registration is now open for those who would like to be part of the competition, officials said Thursday.
This summer’s event will be the first time it has been hosted within the United States and is expected to be the largest international event in Fort Wayne’s history. The size of this event requires over 600 volunteers for the 11-day event to run successfully, officials said.
A variety of volunteer opportunities are available, including guidance/operational support, event planning, registration, security, team liaison, line judging, medical, technology, chaperoning, ceremonies, setup, meals and marketing. Volunteer opportunities are scheduled in either two, four- or eight-hour shifts and can cover one or multiple days.
Anyone interested in volunteering should visit www.ibsafortwayne2019.com for more event information and to sign up for their preferred shifts.
