JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) _ Reggie Elliott had 36 points, 11 rebounds and six assists Thursday as Mercer beat Jacksonville State 99-95.

Elliott made four consecutive free throws as Jacksonville State tried to stage a rally in the game’s last two minutes to preserve the win for Mercer (9-8, 3-4 Trans-America Athletic Conference).

Down 46-45 at the half. Jacksonville State (6-10, 1-6) took the lead with 19:06 left on Jay Knowlton’s 3-pointer and went on to build a 65-58 lead with 14:30 left.

But Mercer regained the lead for good with 12:08 left when Scott Farley made a 3-pointer.

Jacksonville closed the lead to one, 92-91, with 1:40 left, but fouls by Rusty Brand and Tracy Posey put Elliott on the line for his game-sealing free throws.

Knowlton led Jacksonville State with 18 points. Aaron Kelley added 17 points, while Posey had 16, Kris Weldon had 14 and Brand and Sorenson each had 11 points.
