Aiken, Beech Island to hold National Night Out events
Residents can enjoy some quality time with local law enforcement officers and have some good, old-fashioned fun at this year’s National Night Out.
National Night Out, a nationwide awareness-raising event for communities and police in the U.S., is always held the first Tuesday of August. This year people are in luck as there will be two separate events Tuesday, Aug. 7 in Aiken County. Both events will begin at 6 p.m.
The first event, which will involve the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, will be held in Beech Island.
Eliza Mosley, coordinator for the event in Aiken County, will host the National Night Out at the Clearwater Village apartment complex on the 100 block of Seminole Street, just off the Aiken-Augusta Highway.
Deputies with the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office will participate by distributing donated school supplies to children.
There is also typically a fire truck on the site, and members of Emergency Management Services will have an ambulance for kids to explore.
Mosley said there will be a game truck, a balloon girl, snow cones and hot dogs available as well.
The second Night Out event, which will involve the Aiken Department of Public Safety, will be held in Perry Park, 720 Abbeville Ave. N.E. in downtown Aiken.
At Perry Park, there will be an adult kick-ball game starring members of the community and Public Safety officers that begins at 7:15 p.m., according to a release.
There will also be interactive displays, which will includes fire trucks, patrol cars and K-9s.
At sundown, the kid-friendly movie “Hotel Transylvania 2,” rated PG will be shown on the “little Mo” screen.
This National Night Out event will also include games and food.
