Howells man transferred after being pinned under building

September 6, 2018

Around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the Stanton County Sheriff’s office responded to a report of a building that collapsed on a 56-year-old man about four miles north and two and a half miles west of Howells, said Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger.

Chris Pfeifer was working on moving an outbuilding on his farm place, when for unknown reasons it collapsed, pinning him underneath, Unger said.

Pfeifer was able to call 911 with his cell phone after he was trapped for over two hours. Howells Fire and Rescue first responders used airbags and cribbing to extricate Pfeifer from underneath the building, Unger said.

Pfeifer was then flown by Life Net medical helicopter to Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha for treatment of critical injuries.

Stanton County Roads Department also assisted on the scene.
