Plymouth Man Charged With Molesting Girl

March 6, 2019

PLYMOUTH — A borough man is charged with molesting a young girl for years beginning when she was 12 years old.

Tyler James Cox, 25, of 215 E. Willow St., is accused of groping and fondling the girl starting in spring 2012.

According to the complaint, the girl reported Cox, who was dating a relative, had been staying with her family on a regular basis.

On the day she was first assaulted, Cox brought her to the living room couch, where he forced her to touch him, according to the complaint. Cox also put his hands down the girl’s pants and fondled her before suddenly stopping, apparently because he heard the girl’s father coming home, police said.

A few weeks later, Cox sent the girl a Snapchat image of his crotch, saying “come upstairs,” according to the complaint. The girl blocked Cox from Snapchat, but he unblocked his account whenever she left her phone out, police said.

For the next six years — until the girl turned 18 — Cox would grope her in passing whenever he had the chance, the complaint said.

The girl told police she estimated he had groped her about 50 times over the years.

Police charged Cox with felony counts of aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault and corruption of a minor, as well as three misdemeanor counts of indecent assault.

Magisterial District Judge Ferris Peter Webby Sr. arraigned Cox on the charges Monday afternoon and set his bail at $30,000. Cox was being held at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility with a preliminary hearing set for March 13.
