Devils win 1 of 4 at Camp Verde

MOHAVE VALLEY — The River Valley High School Dust Devils won 1 of 4 boys basketball games at the Yvonne Johnson Memorial Shootout at Camp Verde High School on Friday and Saturday.

The Dust Devils were ousted by the Williams High School Vikings 74-71 on Saturday in the consolation bracket of the tourney, said River Valley head coach Dan Powell by text message. The Dust Devils missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Nate Vargas tallied 21 points and Trevell Walker added 20 to lead the Dust Devils.

“The kids worked hard,” Powell said.

The Dust Devils lost to the Hopi High School Bruins 70-55 and the Camp Verde High School Cowboys 78-74 on Friday, and they also beat the Bourgade Catholic Golden Eagles 72-61 early Saturday, according to aiaonline.org.

The Arizona Interscholastic Association 3A West Region River Valley squad’s record is 2-4 overall, 0-1 in conference and 0-1 in region. according to aiaonline.org.
