Mexico finds a dozen bodies in clandestine graves
MORELIA, Mexico (AP) — Investigators have found at least a dozen bodies in clandestine burial pits in the western Mexico state of Michoacan.
An employee of the state prosecutors’ office says one pit contained the decomposed bodies of eight men and two women. It was found in the town of Tumbiscatio, near the hometown of Knights Templar cartel leader Servando Gomez.
The person was not authorized to be quoted by name, so spoke on condition of anonymity.
The employee said late Thursday that two other bodies were found in pits near the Pacific coast port of Lazaro Cardenas.
Michoacan was long dominated by the Knights Templar.
Vigilantes rose up in 2013 to fight the cartel, and this week one of the vigilantes’ earliest supporters was wounded in a shooting in the town of Tepalcatepec.
