Boxer’s Girlfriend Convicted in His Slaying

June 25, 1991

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) _ The former girlfriend of boxer Marcellus Allen has been convicted in his shooting death.

Danielle Anderson, 27, had been charged with manslaughter in the Jan. 1 slaying. A jury Monday convicted her of a lesser offense, criminally negligent homicide. Under state guidelines she could get 16 to 18 months in prison at sentencing Aug. 5.

She could also get up to five years behind bars for illegal use of a firearm.

Allen had been ranked 15th among International Boxing Federation light heavyweights after losing a 1990 bid for the world title held by Michael Moorer.

Anderson admitted shooting a drunk Allen once in the abdomen at her home after Allen had returned their infant son from a parental visit. Anderson had broken up with the boxer over the summer when she was pregnant with their child.

Anderson testified she feared that Allen would kill or seriously injure her after he threatened to knock her out.
