Mandolin Orange to headline the Knitting Factory on Sunday

March 6, 2019

If you took a peak at the Billboard charts last months, the name Mandolin Orange, the Chapel Hill, North Carolina-based duo of Andrew Martin and Emily Frantz, was nearly inescapable.

The duo’s “Tides of a Teardrop” debuted at number one on the Billboard Heatseekers, Americana/Folk, Current Country and Bluegrass charts.

It also took the second spot on the Independent Current Albums chart, number five on the vinyl albums chart, number seven on the Current Rock Albums chart and number eight on the Internet Albums chart.

Martin and Frantz released “Tides of a Teardrop,” their sixth studio album, on Feb. 1, and the reviews are matching the chart placements.

“It’s palliative but never boring, sweet but never cloying, worn but never tired…” NPR’s Stephen Thompson wrote. “These are songs about life lessons that feel lived-in and hard-won.”
