Lynn Archibald, former basketball coach, dies of cancer at 52
PROVO, Utah (AP) _ Lynn Archibald, former head basketball coach at the University of Utah and Idaho State University, died Wednesday after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was 52.
Archibald most recently was assistant coach and director of basketball operations at Brigham Young University, which he joined in 1994.
He also served as an assistant coach at Arizona State, Southern Cal, UNLV, Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo and Cal State-Long Beach.
At Idaho State, Archibald’s team had a record of 69-68 over five seasons. He took the head job at Utah and led the Utes to a 98-85 record, two NCAA tournament and NIT appearances and one Western Athletic Conference championship.
Archibald is survived by his wife, Ann, and children: Damon, Lee Anne and Beau, who played basketball for Washington State University last year.
The funeral is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Edgemont Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Provo.
