Authorities identified the two victims in an apparent Saturday murder-suicide as Madison residents.

James T. Sykes, 39, and Sherry S. Waller, 34, both died from “firearm related trauma,” in a residence on the 3100 block of Webb Avenue, said Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office spokesman Barry Irmen.

While Madison Police Chief Mike Koval said Sunday in his daily blog that the shooting appeared to be a murder-suicide, Irmen said the manner of death for Sykes and Waller is pending further investigation.

Police were called to the East Side home at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday, where they discovered the two victims, who apparently knew each other domestically, and a gun.

A news conference is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday afternoon to discuss the shooting.
