LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) _ Former New York Jets running back and punt returner Leon Johnson signed with the Chicago Bears on Tuesday.
Johnson set the Jets’ season record for punt returns as a rookie in 1997 with 619 yards on 51 returns. In three years with the Jets, he rushed 89 times for 343 yards, a 3.9 average. The 6-foot, 218-pounder, a fourth-round draft pick from North Carolina, missed last season with a knee injury.
Also on Tuesday, the Bears released linebacker Devin Lemons from their practice squad and added defensive end Joe TaFoya, a rookie seventh-round pick from Arizona who was cut by Tampa Bay.
