Shadoski leads Lakeside to 46-36 win over WLA
LAKE MILLS — Senior Kaitlyn Shadoski scored a career-high 29 points and the Lakeside Lutheran girls basketball team pulled away in the second half to top visiting Winnebago Lutheran Academy 46-36 in a nonconference game on Tuesday.
Lakeside (7-4) led by one at halftime and used two scoring runs to build a double-digit lead.
“We couldn’t buy a bucket in the first half,” Lakeside Lutheran head coach Tim Matthies said. “WLA has two athletic six-footers that do a lot of disrupting and clean up the boards. The difference in the second half was two six-point spurts. That was enough to get (the lead) to 10 and from there it stayed pretty steady. Those couple of runs seemed to help us turn the corner.”
Shadoski made nine field goals and the Warriors used different sets to feed her the ball.
“We tried to find the right matchups,” Matthies said. “We had teammates who were looking for her and we capitalized.”
Abby Buxa finished with four points for Lakeside.
For Winnebago Lutheran (9-3), Geneva Hewitt tallied 10 points.
“Hewitt played really well,” Matthies said.
“We had to adjust a little bit defensively to guard her. We did a little bit better in the second half.”
Lakeside hosts Columbus in Capitol North play on Friday.
