Public forums set for area candidates
NORFOLK - The Daily News and its sister radio station, WJAG, will be hosting a candidates’ forum next month for the individuals running for elective office in contested races as part of the November general election.
Two forums will take place back to back on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at the Norfolk city council chambers — Norfolk city council candidates from 5 to 6 p.m., and then Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District board of director candidates from 6 to 7 p.m.
The public is invited to attend in person, but the forums also will be broadcast live by WJAG 780 AM and 105.9 FM as well as via a Facebook Live broadcast by the Daily News.
During the first forum involving city council candidates, scheduled to participate are Bill Hattery and Shane Clausen, who are seeking to be elected to a Ward 2 seat on the council, as well as Fred Wiebelhaus and Jarad Dahlkoetter, candidates for a Ward 4 seat.
During the second forum, the following Lower Elkhorn NRD candidates have been invited to participate if their schedules allow:
— Jill Barr and Scott Clausen, who are candidates for the district’s subdistrict 2 seat. Both are from Norfolk.
— Bob Noonan of Humphrey and Kendra Buss of rural Norfolk, the candidates for the subdistrict 4 seat on the board.
— Dennis Schultz and Tom Feller, both of Wisner, who are candidates for the subdistrict 6 seat.
— Joel Hansen and Greg Owens, both of Wayne, who are running for the at-large seat on the NRD board.
Representatives from the Daily News and WJAG will pose questions to the candidates. Those in attendance at the city council chambers will have the opportunity to suggest possible questions, too. The candidates also will be given a chance to ask a question of each other as part of the forum.
