Carolyn Gronenthal, 73, of Norfolk, formerly of Humphrey, died Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Norfolk Care and Rehabilitation Center in Norfolk.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 28, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey, with the Rev. Patrick McLaughlin celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, with a Christian Mothers Rosary at 4 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church. Memorials are to be directed to the family.
Carolyn was born on Dec. 25, 1945, in Oakland, California, to Alice (Beltz) Trybus. At the age of three, Alice and her three children moved back to Norfolk to be near family. Carolyn graduated from Burns High School in Norfolk, and was united in marriage to William “Bill” Gronenthal on Sept. 19, 1964, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk.
Carolyn and Bill made their home in Humphrey, where they raised their family. Carolyn was a stay-at-home mom, and did babysitting. She later worked at Columbus Manor and Mory’s Haven Nursing Home in Columbus as a CNA. Carolyn enjoyed going to the casino, collecting owls, reading, and doing art work. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.
Carolyn is survived by son, Chris Gronenthal of Columbus; son, Kevin (Pam) Gronenthal of Platte Center; son, Tim (Kara) Gronenthal of Humphrey; son, Dave (Melinda) Gronenthal of Hamburg, Iowa; daughter, Tina Gronenthal of Norfolk; daughter, Meghan Gronenthal of Norfolk; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brother, Steve (Sharon) Trybus of Elwood.
Carolyn was preceded in death by mother, Alice Trybus; husband, Bill Gronenthal; daughter, Jennifer Gronenthal; daughter, Emily Gronenthal; son, Jeff Gronenthal; grandson, Cory Gronenthal; granddaughter, Delaney Engel; sister, Mary Krueger.
