Trinity eliminates Tomcats in state quarterfinals
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Louisville Trinity made 23 of 41 shots and held Ashland to 10-for-20 shooting in defeating the Tomcats 60-30 Friday afternoon in the Kentucky boys state basketball tournament at Rupp Arena.
Stan Turnier, a 6-foot-4 senior guard, led the Shamrocks with 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting, 3-for-6 from 3-point range. David Johnson, a 6-5 senior guard and University of Louisville recruit, scored 13. Kolten Rice, a 5-8 senior guard, scored 11.
Ethan Sellars, a 5-9 freshman guard, paced Ashland (18-17) with 10 points.
Trinity (27-8) will play Campbell County (30-4) in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The Camels reached the Final Four by beating Walton-Verona 49-42.
