CELEBRITY BURGLARIES

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The wheels of justice continue to turn in a series of burglaries that targeted celebrities in the Los Angeles area. Court documents show 10 alleged gang members are facing felony charges in the break-ins. Among the victims of the crimes are Rihanna, Dodgers star Yasiel Puig and L.A. Rams wide receiver Robert Woods. The City News Service reports the suspects are charged with conspiracy and other counts, including burglary and home-invasion robbery. Officials say the celebrity victims were hit up when their social media postings and schedules indicated that they’d be away from home. Investigators found a list of additional targets that included LeBron James and Matt Damon.

STEVIE WONDER - FIRE VICTIMS

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Stevie Wonder says those who are fortunate in life should be willing to help the less fortunate among us. And that’s why the singer says he will be doing a benefit concert to help victims of the massive wildfires in California. Proceeds from the 22nd annual House Full of Toys Benefit Concert on Dec. 9 will go to help those who had their homes damaged or destroyed by the wind-driven flames. Nearly 90 people died and thousands lost their homes. Concertgoers are being asked to bring an unwrapped toy or other gift.

BUYER UNVEILS PLANS FOR ARETHA FRANKLIN HOME

DETROIT (AP) — Imagine paying $300,000 for what amounts to a fixer-upper. That’s how the real estate developer who bought Aretha Franklin’s Detroit mansion looks at the place he purchased last month. Anthony Kellum says he plans to make the home, built in 1927, a more modern place with his planned “major renovations.” The 5,600-square-foot brick home was the last piece of property owned by the Queen of Soul in Detroit. Franklin died of cancer in August at age 76.

QUINCY JONES HONORED AT LA’S CHINESE THEATER

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Rashida Jones may be a TV star and writer. But that didn’t stop her dad from calling her by his nicknames for her in public. Of course, with her dad being Quincy Jones, she had to let it slide. Jones acknowledged his “little doonky” and called her “popsicle” after she introduced him as the latest celebrity to have his hands and feet placed in cement in front of the Chinese Theater in Los Angeles. Others attending the event yesterday were Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre and Usher. Jones thanked the audience, saying they sure knew “how to make a short, bald-headed, bow-legged 85-year-old grin like a fox eating sauerkraut.”

NEW YORK (AP) — If you listen closely you can hear it — the buzz that starts this time of year for movies that might have a shot at an Oscar. One of those deemed worthy of early buzz is “Green Book” — and not just because few people have seen it. It was named best film of the year by the National Board of Review. Its lead star, Viggo Mortensen, has been named best actor. The movie is about a black classical pianist being driven around the south for a concert tour during the Jim Crow era of racial segregation. Mortensen portrays the chauffeur. The Green Book refers to the printed guide for blacks who needed to know which restaurants and hotels would accommodate them as they traveled.

ARIANA GRANDE IN NEW DOCU-SERIES ON YOUTUBE

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Ariana Grande is giving fans an all-access pass into her musical life through a new documentary series on YouTube. The streaming service says the “No Tears Left to Cry” singer will be featured in “Ariana Grande: Dangerous Woman Diaries.” The four-part series is set to launch Thursday on her YouTube channel. The series will show highlights from the making of Grande’s latest album, “Sweetener,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart in August. The documentary will also show new footage from her Dangerous Woman Tour, which was suspended after a terrorist bombing killed 22 and injured more than 500 at Manchester Arena in May 2017. Parts of Grande’s One Love Manchester concert that helped raise money for the bombing victims will also be shown.
