Fresno St. 74, Wyoming 70

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) _ Kendric Brooks scored 22 points to lead Fresno State to a 74-70 Western Athletic Conference victory against Wyoming on Saturday night.

Fresno State (14-7, 8-3 WAC) never trailed in the game but had to fight off several Wyoming charges. Wyoming (11-10, 5-6) cut the lead to 72-70 with 11 seconds left but Darnell McCulloch’s dunk two seconds later sealed the victory.

Wyoming trailed 66-62 with just under four minutes left in the game. But Wyoming coach Joby Wright was hit with a technical foul, giving Fresno State two free throws and the ball. Dominick Young made both free throws and scored a layup a minute later to increase the Bulldogs’ lead to eight points.

Two free throws by Jeron Roberts and a LaDrell Whitehead 3-pointer cut Fresno State’s lead to three points with 1:37 left in the game. But Fresno State held the ball for more than a minute before Brandon Bakke hit two free throws to give the Bulldogs a five-point lead with 21 seconds left.

Young scored 15 for Fresno State, including 10 in the second half. McCulloch scored 10 of his 11 points in the second half and had 10 rebounds.

Whitehead had a game-high 27 points to lead Wyoming, including 19 in the first half. Wyoming outscored Fresno State 17-7 over the final eight minutes of the half and trailed 34-33 at halftime.
