Jail inmate dies after ingesting cocaine during traffic stop
MILTON, Fla. (AP) — A Florida jail inmate died after he told deputies he had swallowed seven grams of cocaine.
Santa Rosa County sheriff’s officials say the man had been arrested late Monday for driving with a suspended license and drug possession.
The Pensacola News Journal reports that during the traffic stop, deputies saw him swallow something so put him on special monitoring when he was at the county jail.
Early Tuesday he told guards he felt ill and told them he had swallowed cocaine. He was taken to the hospital, where he died.
The man’s name has not been released pending notification of relatives.
