Love comics? This Florence event’s for you

FLORENCE, S.C. – Those looking for a fantastic, artistic, science-fictionistic experience will have their chance Sunday when Florence marks its second Power Comicon of the year at the Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing and Technology Center on the Florence-Darlington Technical College campus.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and costs $10. It’s free for children under 12 who are accompanied by a paying adult.

In addition to the usual vendors, a host of artists are expected to be on hand, according to the event’s Facebook page.

Elliot Fernandez, a Tampa, Florida-based artist who has contributed to DC’s Harley Quinn, Dynamites Army of Darkness and Archie Comics Riverdale and Jughead comics will be on hand.

Also scheduled to appear will be Mark Pennington, who has worked with DC, Marvel, DarkHorse and IDW as well as doing toy design for Hasbro.

Others scheduled to appear include José Varese, Sanford Greene, Mike Hoffman, Steve Mannion, Budd Root, John Hairston, Kevin Sharpe, Chuck Brown, Alex Smith, Chris Bradberry, Chris McJunkin, Karl Moline, Gregbo Watson, Andy Smith, Lyle Pollard, John Wycough, Johndell Snead and Brian Shearer, according to the page.
