Eric Raymond Chambers, 33, had been charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury.

Police were called to the Knights Inn hotel at 3804 New Bern Avenue just before 10 p.m. Aug. 21 for a report of a shooting.

When they arrived, they found Davelle Shaunduke McMoore, 23, and Terry Vernette Blossom, 53, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both were rushed for medical treatment to WakeMed, where McMoore was pronounced dead. Blossom was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The hotel was closed off to the public as police investigated the area.
