Good Shepherd collecting hats, gloves for Veteran’s Home
It’s never too early for a Christmas tree, especially if it’s being decorated with gloves, scarves and hats to donate to the needy.
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is collecting warm accessories on the mitten tree in the narthex of the church, 1610 Powers Run Road.
The Rev. David Rike, pastor, said donations will go to Shepherd’s Heart Fellowship and Veteran’s Home, a drop-in center for the homeless.
“The center provides food, laundry, showers and encouragement through God’s word for those in need,” he said.
The facility also provides transitional housing for homeless veterans who are rebuilding their lives.
The congregation at Good Shepherd has an active community outreach, taking the lead each month to help a variety of groups.
Among those who benefit from the monthly drives are Backpack for Hunger, an initiative in the Fox Chapel Area School District that helps provide weekend food to students, the Lower Valley Community Food Bank and Passavant Assisted Living.
