Boy detained after pointing BB gun at school faculty member
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a Florida school was locked down for a short time after a student pointed a BB gun at a faculty member.
The Sun Sentinel reports that the 12-year-old boy was detained Friday morning at Dillard Middle/High School in Fort Lauderdale. He faces multiple charges.
Fort Lauderdale police chief Rick Maglione says the boy was in an administration office when he pulled what appeared to be a handgun from his backpack, pointed it at an adult and pulled the trigger multiple times. Officials say the BB gun appeared to be real and didn’t have an orange tip.
Officers searched the school to make sure it was an isolated incident.
Investigators wouldn’t say whether the gun was loaded or fired any BBs. No injuries were reported.
