Boys Soccer | Century keeps things rolling

September 13, 2018

Century is one of the hottest boys soccer teams in the Big Nine Conference.

The Panthers built some more on that trend with a 2-1 win over Mankato West on Tuesday.

It was Century’s third win in its last four games.

Century coach Hal Houghton said his team was not perfect. But he’ll take the win.

“Despite some sketchy play, Century found a way to maintain the win,” said Houghton, whose team is 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the Big Nine. “This is a good sign.”

Markus Melsness and Max Sargent have each had a goal for the Panthers, while Jacob LaDue had an assist. Blake Larson had five saves for Century.

Mankato West scored late in the game to lend some drama in the final minutes.

Houghton was pleased with his team’s defense.

“Riley Leif had a solid game in defense as did Jacob Watson,” Houghton said. “Rayan Haj Sakor also had a solid outing tonight pressuring Mankato backs and midfielders and causing turnovers.”

Century is at Northfield on Thursday.
