Loomis Named Gordon’s Crew Chief
CHARLOTTE (AP) _ Robbie Loomis is the new crew chief for three-time Winston Cup champion Jeff Gordon, and Brian Whitesell is the team manager, Hendrick Motorsports announced Tuesday.
Loomis, 35, has served as crew chief for Petty Enterprises’ No. 43 car for the past nine years and was team manager for both Petty drivers, John Andretti and Kyle Petty, during the 1999 season while still serving as Andretti’s crew chief.
Whitesell, who has been with Gordon’s team since its inception, will guide the team’s overall operation. He assisted Ray Evernham and succeeded him when Evernham left to become a car owner.
After Evernham’s departure, Whitesell won his first two races as Gordon’s crew chief, at Martinsville, Va., and Charlotte.
